Kristin Cavallari Talks Her Kids’ Diet: ‘We’re Not as Strict’ as People ‘May Think We Are’

Don’t leave Kristin Cavallari‘s kids out of donut day!

The former existence star — whose new cookbook, True Roots: A Mindful Kitchen with More Than 100 Recipes Free of Gluten, Dairy, and Refined Sugar, comes out subsequent month — dished to PEOPLE about how she and father Jay Cutler hoop dishes for their kids: daughter Saylor James, 2, and sons Jaxon Wyatt, 3½, and Camden Jack, 5½.

“We’re not as despotic as we consider everybody might consider we are,” admits a mom of three, 31. “We’ve been getting my kids donuts flattering most each weekend and we don’t consider twice about it.”

“I’m not so despotic with them that they’re gonna go to a friend’s residence and afterwards go to college and only totally go a other way,” Cavallari explains. “I’m picturesque too, and we wish them to be kids and enjoy all that comes with being a kid.”

The Hills alum reveals that food time during her home is customarily a flattering candid affair. “I’ve been doing duck fingers for them during propagandize and put a small thing of plantation that they love,” she says.

“Kids are really simple. If there’s tomato salsa on it, they’ll eat it,” Cavallari adds. “They love meatballs and pasta and we eat all that stuff. Just a forms that we eat — like a pasta, for instance — we make brownish-red rice or quinoa or lentil pasta instead of white-flour pasta, so there’s healthy swaps we can do.”

On tip of a fad over her Uncommon James open collection, Cavallari can’t wait to recover her cookbook — something she calls “a passion project” that she’s grateful to have NFL star Cutler around to assistance her with.

“I’m only blissful my father is finished with football so he can take caring of a kids right now with all going on,” she tells PEOPLE.
