‘The Wiz': Shanice Williams Considering Broadway Revival

Shanice Williams has a universe during her feet.

The 19-year-old visitor captivated America as Dorothy during NBC’s The Wiz Live on Thursday where she led a expel that enclosed stars Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Uzo Aduba, Ne-Yo and, maybe many importantly, Stephanie Mills, who originated a purpose on Broadway.

Here, Williams reflects on a whirlwind event, a recommendation Mills gave her and either she’d reprise a purpose in subsequent year’s Broadway reconstruction with The Wiz producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

How are we feeling this morning?

I’m sleepy. we need to get some critical rest! (Laughs.)

How did we feel going into a live broadcast?

It was a lot of vigour though we always wanted to do this with my life. It was that feeling of a dream entrance true. Going into it, we knew it was going to be tough work and life changing. we was like, alright, God gave me this event and we’ll see what happens.

How did we feel a impulse it was over?

I was revelation someone that when crazy things occur to me, it doesn’t strike me until a while after. we walked off a theatre and wondered since we wasn’t good right now. But afterwards we walked backstage and all my expel was there clapping and afterwards a duct started. It felt good to know that all of a tough work was value it and it paid off.

Who was your initial call after it ended?

I talked to my mom, who kept observant “Shanice! Shanice!” She was during a detriment for words; she’s unequivocally unapproachable of me and watched with my whole family. They’ve upheld me from a commencement and it was unequivocally exciting.

Did we hear from Bob Greenblatt?

He was there. He was unequivocally unapproachable of everybody and gave us a good debate before it started and was there during a celebration after. It was good to see him loose and carrying fun. we knew we did a jobs since Bob seemed flattering happy. He pronounced he laid out a trail for us and told us [before it started] that it was all adult to us to let this occur and make it a good experience.

What kind of recommendation did Stephanie Mills, who originated a purpose of Dorothy on Broadway and played Aunt Em here, give you?

The recommendation she always gives me is to stay humble, take all one step during a time and live in a moment. By doing that, it’s helped me get by this tour in my life since all goes by so quick. But when we take it one step during a time, we can learn from it and unequivocally delight a moment.

We only spoke with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who wish that you’ll reprise a role on Broadway for them. Is that something you’re considering?

Broadway has always been my dream. we consider it’d be cold to be in film and radio though we never suspicion that would happen. Broadway is always what I’ve been training to do and what I’ve always dreamed about so that would be incredible.

Are we in any active talks to be in a Broadway performance?

We’re not certain yet; we’ll see what happens.

Craig and Neil were over a moon about your performance.

Yesterday, it overwhelmed my heart when we was articulate to Craig and Neil and to see their facial expressions. They were there a day we was expel and we always only wish to make them proud. To see their faces [afterward], they seemed so happy. we was overwhelmed that we could go out there and do what we had to to make them proud. They’re unequivocally vehement and a ratings were great. I’m unequivocally happy we all pulled it off.

Have we oral with them about returning for their subsequent live low-pitched for NBC? They’d adore to have we back.

I only told Neil and Craig that we adore them and would do anything they’re a partial of. They’re like my family.

What’s subsequent for you?

I’m not certain yet. We have something in negotiations though zero is final.

Is it TV, film, Broadway?

I can’t say.

What’s your dream job?

My dream pursuit would be starring in a lead purpose on a Broadway musical. Once on This Island is one of my favorite musicals, so to have a lead in that would be great. Audra McDonald is my biggest impulse so operative with her in any show, that would make my life’s dream come true.

What do we consider about a strenuous response from critics and on amicable media to your performance?

I try to stay divided form amicable media since it’s always certain and disastrous though everybody in my family and my friends are observant that they desired it. I’m happy that it’s indeed bringing people together and we unequivocally indispensable that. That’s what I’m unapproachable of.

Have we listened from Diana Ross (who played Dorothy in a 1978 film)?

I haven’t, isn’t that crazy that we haven’t listened from her? we unequivocally wish she watched it and enjoyed it.
