Ryan Gosling never disappoints when it comes to making peculiar facial reactions at award shows.
The 36-year-old has kept relatively quiet about the bizarre mix-up, which brought him on stage when La La Land was announced the Best Picture winner — before it was revealed moments later that Moonlight had really won the top award.
While the cast and crew couldn’t contain their shock, Gosling was caught laughing throughout the ordeal, leaving fans to wonder if he’s that emotionally cavalier in all situations.
Well, the father-of-two finally offered an explanation for his weird reaction on Wednesday, admitting he was mostly relieved all the commotion wasn’t the result of a much worse situation.
“What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt. I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst case scenario playing out in my head.”
After realizing what actually happened, however, Gosling couldn’t help but let out a few giggles. He continued:
“And then I just heard, ‘Oh Moonlight won,’ and I was so relieved that I started laughing. But truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won, I know the director… I’ve worked with them before. It’s such a groundbreaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognized.”
Well, that explains that. All love and LOLz here!
