The Empire co-creator offering tract sum during Loyola Marymount’s Hollywood Masters array with THR‘s Stephen Galloway on Mar 22, divulgence that a film — still uncast, solely for Winfrey in a Shirley MacLaine purpose — will be set in a ’80s and embody a storyline about black group who brought HIV/AIDS to their womanlike partners.
“I’ve got to tell stories that are critical to me, and so many African-American women died,” pronounced Daniels. “I wish to make Flap [played by Jeff Daniels in a 1983 film] happy and taint a Debra Winger character. And afterwards we try a ’80s in a opposite way.”
Other tidbits: Daniels announced his Empire spinoff will be Las Vegas-set and suggested that he’s begun therapy. “They contend it works,” he mused. “I’ll find out.”
